Beauty Diaries: Eyeko Founder Nina Leykind Unveils Her Summer Beauty Essentials

There’s nothing more us beauty ladies love than a good natter with the brains behind some of our fave brands, so you can only imagine how excited we were to catch up with Eyeko founder Nina Leykind to hear all about her recent trip to the Maldives and the beauty essentials she couldn’t be without on the sun lounger. Waterproof mascara anyone?

After all, Eyeko is one of the top eye-only make-up brands out there and has gained cult status amongst not only us beauty ladies but is loved by the likes of Alexa Chung and L’Wren Scott too. With their stellar range of eye-opening products (from eye liners to mascaras to brow gels- we love it all!), we just couldn’t wait to hear what Nina had to say. Read on and learn girls, read on and learn…

1. BEACH

Hampton Sun SPF15 Continuous Mist Sunscreen, £29: Even if you only manage to get as far as West Wittering the fragrance alone will make you Hamptons-worthy and unlike most lotions this leaves skin silky soft not sticky.

Ultra Sun SPF30 Family for Sensitive Skin, £19: A must for all the family! Often I find that high factors make my skin break out but not this one and factor 30 is definitely enough as you ought to stay in the shade anyway and higher factors just give you a false sense of security.  If you are an avid sun bunny then you will need to re-apply.

Eyeko Brow Gel, £18: This is my beach must have! Groomed brows really frame your eyes and our brow gel adds a hint of colour for definition as well as holding them in place, then curl your lashes for a wide-eyed look to further open up the eye so you  can skip mascara altogether!

Maybelline Baby Lips, £2.99: A real favourite as they’re cheap and cheerful, come in a myriad of colours, some with SPF15, and they don’t melt in your make-up bag.

Sol Janeiro Posto Cool, £17: This makes the perfect spritz to keep your face cool and hydrated.  Smells divine too!

2. BEACH TO BAR

Sun Bum Cool Down Continuous Spray Aloe Vera: This is the best post-beach treat.  A deliciously scented dry-touch body oil mist with Aloe Vera, Cucumber Extract and Vitamin E to soothe and smooth sun drenched skin.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelee: Perfect for a flush of colour.

Fresh Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15, £25.85: My go-to for beach to bar lips.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder SPF15, £39: This brings everything together reducing shine but enhancing your sun-kissed skin.

3. BALMY NIGHTS

“With the right beauty arsenal you can battle heat and humidity to beat the frizz and the shiny, lobster skin too! Start prepping your hair at the beach! Load up on oils - I use Moroccan Oil but any argan oil will do, and happily spray on my sun protection oil too.”

“Your hair will have benefited from a treatment on the beach leaving it soft and manageable at shower time.  Squeeze out as much moisture as you can with a towel, run some more oil through the ends and let it air dry.  Whatever you do, don’t touch to really minimise the frizz factor.  If you have fine hair just twist it up into a top not to create volume and movement when you let it down for dinner.  For hair that just won’t be tamed slick it all back into a high pony tail and wrap an end of hair round the base to disguise the band for a chic yet simple look.”

“Now you’re working that tan your eyes call for extra definition. Mascara is key but the heat requires a different technique.  Be sure to remove the excess from your brush and wiggle the wand into the base of your lashes then sweep up vertically to lengthen and coat every lash.  I always pack lengthening Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara, £15 which is great all-rounder and wardrobe it with Eyeko Eye Do Mascara, £20 to add volume! Bright sunlight is very harsh and unforgiving so this is not the time to style out a clumpy lash look!  Add a smudge of liner if you like, I’m obsessed with our latest launch Eyeko Making Eyes Automatic Gel Eyeliners that are waterproof and goof proof, I use Powder Pink on my inner waterline to brighten up my eyes that tend to get a bit red after all that sun, sea and Sangria!”
