It all happened when I was flicking through my diary a few weeks ago when I realised that summer was actually looming scarily quickly. Although we spend our lives counting down the days till those balmy summer moments- think alfresco lunches, Wimbledon, Pimms, open-toed sandals, etc, the reality is that the arrival of everyone’s favourite season also equates to stripping off. Sayonara cashmere jumpers, opaque tights and Ash boots- the time has come to bear some flesh. And whether you’re a keen gym-goer (or a devoted couch potato) there’s no denying we could all do with a helping hand when it comes to getting beach-ready in time for summer.
Kickboxing plays a large part in Ana's bootcamp (Instagram)
As a self-confessed fitness freak (a day without my 630am workout renders me slightly insane, you have been warned) I was intrigued to hear about The Amazons Bootcamp, a London-based, women-only bootcamp. Don’t get me wrong, I love breaking a sweat, but the thought of a military-style bootcamp has always filled me with absolute dread- the mere thought of a huge man screaming at me to ‘drop and give me 20’ makes me feel queasy. This is where Ana Legin steps in- the former kickboxing champion taking London ladies’ fitness scene by storm.
I first met with Ana at the crack of dawn a couple of weeks ago at a local park near my house and was slightly apprehensive when I spotted the equipment laid on the dewy grass at Ana’s (super-toned) side. Battle ropes, sand bags, tyres, sledge hammers and slam balls would be the basis of my daybreak workout, making quite the change from the monotony of the treadmill and weekly spinning classes. 60 minutes later and I had been put through my paces to say the least- a series of high intensity circuit training mixed with kick-boxing and sprints- my endorphins felt at an all-time high. I was seriously impressed. What’s more, Ana assured me that her workouts focus on the ‘after burn’, meaning my body would burn calories for up to 48 hours after each session. Cool, huh?

The best thing about Ana’s bootcamp? It was like working out with a friend- she is hugely motivational, encouraging, prepared to adapt the workout to your individual fitness level (me and the burpees didn’t stand a chance) and, best of all, there’s no shouting. When I asked Ana where the name ‘Amazons Bootcamp’ came from, she said, “It’s all about transforming you from a deskbound weakling to a female warrior. This is all about getting you stronger, fitter and faster.” Bring on the bikini, I say.
The Amazons Bootcamp training is available at bootcamps across South West London, or London-wide on a personal training, 1-2-1 basis. For more information click here.
