Michelle Obama on inaurguration day
Michelle Obama, the First Lady whom the fashion industry have taken to their heart, pretty much never puts a stylishly shod foot wrong, as far as we’re concerned – we loved her new fringe, or bangs as the Americans would have it.
She looked good before and she looks great now – pretty much case closed. Or so we thought. But we reckoned before that revered fashion oracle, Karl Lagerfeld, had spoken out.
The creative director of Chanel and originator of other fashion projects too numerous to mention here, told French TV show Le Petit Journal : ‘I don't understand the change of hair. I adore Madame Obama, I love her. But there is a news reader at LCI which has this haircut.’
He went on to conclude that; ‘Frankly, this doesn't suit her. The fringe was a bad idea, it's not good.’
We wonder if the FLOTUS will be upset to hear this harsh judgement. Or whether she’ll be consoled by the fact that Karl never lets an interview go by without insulting the person who is the hot topic of the day.
Or even that she got off considerably more lightly than poor Pippa Middleton, who last year was forced to read in Grazia that Kaiser Karl thought she should only ever show her back, not her face. Or the multi-award-winning singer Adele, who, in Karl’s opinion is a bit ‘too fat’.
In fact, could it be the case that Karl has insulted so many people now that he can’t imagine any interview taking place without some new victim of his frank and forthright views being slated?
