Michelle before and after the big bangs
Here in the Grazia beauty department we’re well known to be quite the fans of Michelle Obama’s beauty choices. If anyone knows how to work a good grey nail it’s the First Lady herself. Yesterday, which was incidently her 49th birthday, Mrs O up’d the beauty anti by adding some rather chic new bangs…
And from where we are standing it seems that bangs are currently proveing themselves a popular beauty choice. Not only were they a HUGE trend on the a/w catwalks, but then Kate Middleton chose that long Farrah Fawcett style version and Kim Kardashian went for a soft long look more recently too. Mobama’s needless to say, is a fringe-with a difference; thick, glossy and slightly shorter, her bangs are somehow blunter, more choppy and well, fabulous. A sure winner, all we’re left wondering is whether the first lady’s new do is the work of her longstanding hair dresser Johhny Wright or, dare we say it, an impressive set of clip ons…? Only time will tell!
Those of you longing for a bit of a new season update would be wise to give these all new, all versatile and most importantly all flattering fringe a go. Longer and fuller than we’ve seen it for a while, this fringe works whatever you’re hair length or type. Snipped into long hair the result is pure bohemia and shorter hair is given a softer, more casual edge. “The secret to achieving this season’s fringe is to avoid anything too wispy, keep it long, heavy and ever so slightly rounded on the edges,” says backstage hair styling hero Luke Hersheson, “It’s versatility lies in the multiple ways it can be styled; you can literally flit from Madonna, to Jane Birkin to Kate Moss with a blast from the hair dryer or a spritz of product.” Bear in mind that most good salons should offer a free fringe trimming service (always avoid the DIY chop), and ask your hairdresser to cut your fringe dry so you can ascertain how much it will bounce up. Want to try before you buy? Hersheson’s salon offer their famous clip in Winge service – Try the Rock Chick and the Sharp fringes.
