Lena Dunham's Pixie Crop Goes Retro - But Who Gave The Greatest Twiggy Tribute?

06 December 2012 by

'It's practically a rite of passage for anyone who gets a pixie cut,' writes The Cut - and they're not wrong. Lena Dunham caused an Internet storm when she chopped her locks into a super-short crop earlier this year, ditching the wispy bob she sported on the first series of TV show Girls. So it was only a matter of time before the writer / director / actress got trussed up as Twiggy.

Entertainment Weekly were the clever clogs who got her to go all Sixties. They boofed-up her crop into a mini beehive, added lashings of black eyeliner, a set of falsies and a monochrome manicure for their new issue. They even dressed her in one of Mad Men's floral cast-offs.

With that wide-eyed - and wide-mouthed - expression and such striking makeup, we're rather taken by retro Dunham, but Lord knows there's been many a Twig-a-like before her. Top croppers from Emma Watson to Carey Mulligan have also worked the retro look and now it's official that this decade had THE most stylish hair-dos, there's bound to be plenty more where that came from. We're talking to you, Pixie Geldof.

But the question is: who did Twiggy best? Take a look through the greatest Twiggy tributes in the gallery above and let us know your verdict...
