Thanks to Taylor Swift, the humble hairband is now getting some serious grown-up attention. Once associated with little girls and cutesy styles, the hairband was quick to fall to the wayside in the glitzy world of hair accessories, along with sparkly barrettes and brightly coloured hair ties. In fact, us beauty girls reckon you probably haven’t worn a hair accessory for circa 5 years- although that’s not counting that scrunchie you wear to the gym… However, according to T-Swift’s recent escapades, it seems as if the hairband can actually be rather gorgeous and surprisingly grown-up.

Take, for example, Taylor’s recent looks- from the Earth Month-friendly yellow leather flower (from Anthropologie, FYI) to a simple gold band, Ms Swift is quickly becoming our new hair accessory crush. What’s more, Taylor’s haircut is the perfect length for a band- any shorter and you’re verging on sickly-sweet territory and too long would render you a festival-loving hippie, unless that’s the look you’re going for. Super-chic and delicately feminine, we’re taking serious spring beauty inspiration from Miss Swift.

The best news? A gorgeous hair accessory is the official fast track to pretty summer hair this season. From statement headbands to super-cute hair ties, we’re in the midst of a serious love affair with the humble hair accessory. It all began backstage at Dolce and Gabbana where models were bestowed with floral garlands, crystal-studded combs and leather headbands. What’s more, with hair legend Sam McKnight’s super-cool hair accessories out now, and the likes of ASOS and Accessorize stocking some seriously chic, budget-friendly options, hair accessories just got a whole load more exciting.
