As Dakota Fanning Goes Brunette, We Review Her Hair History

14 November 2012 by

Since she started out in the film game, at the tender age of five, we've only ever known Dakota Fanning as an all American blonde. As she's matured before our very eyes, we've loved every flick of her fresh but grungy blonde do that she's angelically sported since her breakthrough performance in I am Sam

So when, on Monday night, she walked onto the red carpet for the LA premiere of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, Dakota revealed a new look: a rich, warm brunette hair colour. Then she attended the CFDA Awards last night, giving us another glimpse of the style-changing shade, which we're fast becoming accustomed to.

So what's the reason behind this drastic colour change? Aside from the possibility of switching for a movie role, we wouldn't be surprised if, after years of being a super-sweet blonde, Dakota is looking to be taken more seriously. It rather reminds us of when Mary-Kate Olsen went to the dark side after dating an older man.

With a more mature shade, Dakota has upped her style stakes too - she opted for a tres sophisticated, floor-sweeping gown at Monday's premiere and there's bound to be more where that came from. She's updated her makeup too. Whereas before her blonde locks needed no additional colour, Dakota's first outings as a brunette have seen her sporting rosy cheeks and lips and a darker eyeliner to really make those blue eyes pop. Speaking of which, not only has the new look highlighted Dakota's pale and perfect skin, it's accentuated her gorgeous facial features too. How far she's come, eh?
