Aveda's Top 10 Tips For Dry Hair

1. It is important to first recognise that your hair is dry, you can do this with a simple test: Take one strand of wet hair and gently pull the hair at either end, if the hair stretches by about one third before returning to its original length then you know that your hair is healthy. If your strand of hair doesn’t stretch or stretched a small amount before breaking then you know that your hair is damaged and lacking protein. Should your hair stretch but not return it is likely to be more dry than damaged.

2. Investing in good products that are genuinely geared towards your hairs specific requirements is really important. For dry hair choose a range that drenches the hair in moisture like the Aveda Dry Remedy range proven to improve dry hair by up to 66% when used together.

3. If you find that masques and treatments generally leave your hair too soft or too heavy, apply a product like the Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Masque before shampooing and double wash it back out, this gives your hair that moisture injection that is needed but won’t weigh it down.

4. We all find it tricky at times to find time to hydrate our hair with a treatment so why not utilise time while exercising and plait a conditioner or masque into your hair before you go for a run, practice yoga or even under your cap as you swim. This will leave your hair intensely moisturized and ready to wash straight out post-workout.

5. Reducing the temperature of your styling tools by even a few degrees can have a huge effect on reducing the damage caused to your hair. Make sure you use a heat protecting product as a preventative too - a product like Smooth Infusion Style Prep works to defend hair from heat and keeps it healthy.

6. When you visit your stylist ask for a moisturising treatment as an add on to your usual service. Aveda Dry Remedy Moisture Treatment is an additional service that can do this and helps to improve dry hair by up to 86% in one session!

7. If your hair is dry then choose a style that doesn’t emphasise your dry ends and works to complement its natural movement. Your hair will look healthier as well as meaning that your need for heat styling day-to-day is reduced.

8. Keeping up regular trims and visits to your Stylist is really key - don’t keep ends just for the want of length as this can make the overall appearance of your hair look less healthy.

9. Treat your haircare like your skincare and develop a daily regimen including a moisture boosting product and keep it up! Using an oil that you can use daily like Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil is silicone free which means that it actually penetrates the hair and improves hair and ends by 41%.

10. Tip: Choose a product within a range as an introduction that you can use on top of your current regimen and achieve instant results like Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturising Masque that moisturises and seals in intense hydration.

And it seems no matter what we try, it's impossible to transform our lifeless tresses into the bouncy Victoria's Secret blow-dry of our dreams.
