10 Hollywood Haircuts We Find Much More Inspirational Than Anne Hathaway's Pixie Crop

18 April 2013 by

Mia Farrow's pixie crop, Audrey Hepburn's beehive, Natalie Portman's pink wig - the silver screen has offered up oodles of hairspiration through the years. But the MOST influential? Anne Hathaway's super-short 'do, apparently.

Anne Hathaway Pixie Hair Most Influential

While many of us gasped when the actress shaved her head for her harrowing role in 'Les Miserables' - no more glossy K-Middy tresses! - we admit to becoming quite accustomed to the elfin crop in recent months. The actress worked the promo circuit with aplomb, her new 'do paving the way for more adventurous style choices. Rather than frothy Valentino gowns, Anne ventured into kinky Tom Ford territory a la Rihanna (who'da thought it), donned the odd tailored suit, and let's not forget the nipple-tastic Prada gown she chose for her award-winning night at the Oscars.

Now the hair-do has been voted as the number one cut when it comes to screen to salon inspiration. Eh? A poll was conducted by the Hairdressing Council of Great Britain and Universal Pictures which asked 1,000 people to vote for the most inspiring 'do. In fact, the Hathaway crop even beat hair queen Jennifer Aniston’s locks in 'Along Came Polly', which scooped a measly second place. What's more, one in ten women has changed their hairstyle thanks to a moment of inspiration whilst watching a DVD and Blu-ray.

Although Grazia Daily is not one to quipple with the facts, quite frankly we can think of LOADS of other haircuts that have been way more inspirational for our barnets than these two. In fact, this has instigated a game here at Grazia HQ called Which Hollywood Haircut Is Your Fave (it's a working title). You'll find the results in the gallery below...

1. Sienna Miller in Alfie

- Katherine Ormerod, Senior fashion news and features editor

2. Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums

'Gwyneth Paltrow is brilliant as Margot in Wes Anderson's quirky tale of a dysfunctional New York family. If you're not hooked on whether she'll end up with her adopted brother Richie (it's not quite as weird as it sounds we promise), then you'll be obsessed with her beauty look which stays the same from childhood to adult life. Heavy kohl eyes and a girly shoulder length bob play on the character's personality traits of teenage rebellion and deep vulnerability. It's a razor sharp chop that Alexa Chung can only dream of and has certainly persuaded me to get snip happy in the past.' - Julia Fernandez, Community Editor

3. Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface

'Michelle Pfeiffer is just SO cool in Scarface (and Grease 2 - my guilty pleasure).  Her hair is simple but hard to pull off for the average women but in this film you can’t take your eyes off her style, make up and that signature swishy bob.  In fact, how does she make a bob swish?!  Michelle is timeless and if I could be anyone, it would be her!' - Lauren Murdoch Smith, Beauty editor

4. Kate Hudson in Almost Famous

'It’s the original ‘I’m with the band’ hairstyle and a much cooler way to wear your hair for festivals today as well'-  Liz Hambleton, Beauty director

5. Kim Basinger in 9 ½ Weeks

- Susannah Frankel, Fashion director

6. Keira Knightley in Atonement

'I always liked this hair… on Keira. And the dress.' - Lottie Lumsden, Assistant news editor

7. Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction

'I totally loved Glenn Close’s mop top in Fatal Attraction. Before she went all nutso her wild curls were the perfect individualistic touch to offset her sleek designer wardrobe. And after? They were pretty darn effective at highlighting her deterioration into full-on murderous bunny boiler.' - Jess Commons, Editorial assistant

8. Zooey Deschanel in, err, everything

'I’ve always thought everyone looks better with their hair off their face. Then Zooey Deschanel came along in everything and I realised I was wrong. She’s become my new Hair Down Hairo. Decent bangs too…' - Morwenna Ferrier, Features editor

9. Merida in Brave

'I frickin’ love Merida’s shocking mop of wild ginger hair in Brave. I’ve always been envious of anyone with a flowing mane of thick, curly hair (mine is fine, a bit fluffy and refuses to grow past my boobs) and its just as feisty as she is.' - Jo Duckworth, Entertainment assistant

10. Ariel in The Little Mermaid

'Her swishy, bold red mane. I spent my entire childhood trying to convince my mum to dye my hair ‘ginge’ and still do the mermaid swish as soon as I step into a pool.' - Zoe Beaty, Features writer
