Everyone loves Chanel No.5. Fact. Ever since May we’ve been ooh-ing over the news that Brad Pitt is the new face of the fragrance in a ground-breaking take on the ‘beauty muse.’ A man fronting the world’s most famous female scent? Hells yeah!

Now we hear rumours that an EU advisory committee has identified allergens in the No.5 fragrance which could cause health issues for its wearers. NO! Word has it that the committee has suggested (cue shock and horror), a ban on the fragrance and many other of the world’s most famous scents following research into allergy inducing ingredients. In Chanel’s case, this is because of the use of a natural tree moss note in the scent which adds to the woodiness of the fragrance. Uh oh.

‘It is the death of perfume if this continues,’ she explains, ‘The more you use natural ingredients, the more there is a risk of allergies. Lemon, jasmine, bergamot all contain allergenics." And we for one think the more natural ingredients, the better so no need to start rationing your last drop just yet.

In support of the continuation of Chanel No.5 - and because we couldn’t bear for a ban have rounded up just ten of the most fabulous things about the scent:
