From Anne Hathaway’s graceful glam to Sienna Miller’s boho vibe, a chic red nail trend is effortlessly versatile and easy to pull off. It even has the royal stamp of approval, with K-Middy sporting a deep burgundy red on her toes not long ago at a gala dinner in London. Yet none have taken the trend to quite such extremes as Rihanna, who took to her Instagram and Twitter account to show off her vampy Cruella de Ville-esque talons. Never the shrinking violet, these unforgettable show-stoppers caused quite a stir in the Twittersphere as Rihanna accessorised the look with Monroe lips, smoky eyes and a whole lotta bling.
RiRi's Instagram photo
And talking of bling, RiRi actually achieved the look using four carats of genuine ruby dust (yes, you read that right) which was mixed into a varnish. Cue serious gasps! Yep, she always has to go one better than us doesn't she. And whilst we might be copying her choice of shade, we're not sure we'll be able to afford the ruby-encrusted version that she opted for. A little birdy told us that her nails were in fact painted in a very exclusive, celeb-only shade that nail company Red Carpet Manicure have created specially and sadly it isn't available to us mere mortals. But, before you weep into your coffee, their Red Carpet Manicure 'Draped in Rubies' Polish, £12.95 is basically a near-perfect match to this colour but without the humungous price tag. Hurray!
RiRi's nails have in fact got us thinking this morning... sparkly, festive polishes are BIG this season so whether you want a metallic shade or deep crimson red, don't be shy to play around. We like layering shades of red up and finishing with a glitter top coat for full effect. And if you're after something a little more understated, Miranda Kerr and Lauren Conrad show us how it’s done, keeping their nails short and slightly squared in shades of burgundy and cherry - think practical and low maintenance girls! The fashion squad are also on board and we spotted most the the FROW donning a set of rouged tips at Fashion Week last month. We've rather kindly picked out our top 3 polishes just for you lot, so that you can totally nail this trend:
