It was way back in May when we first heard rumours that Brad Pitt was set to be the new face of Chanel No. 5 in a ground-breaking take on the ‘beauty muse.’ And when the official announcement about Chanel’s new cover girl boy for the No.5 scent arrived, we Graziettes were delighted at the refreshing - and hunky - choice. How exciting having a man be the face of the world’s most famous fragrance!
There’s no doubt that Mr Pitt follows in very fashionable and fabulous footsteps - Catherine Deneuve, Audrey Tatou and Nicole Kidman have all faced-up the fragrance throughout the years. The two-minute ad campaign in 2004 featuring Ms Kidman was estimated to have cost a whopping £18 million and there's a good chance that this new one could be even pricier.
While we’re pretty sure that each and every one of you has heard of Chanel No. 5, what you might or might not know is that the scent was launched by the French fashion house back in 1920 and first became the epitome of chic when Marilyn Monroe stated that 'five drops of Chanel No.5' was all she wore to bed. Cheeky!
Then, last week, those teasing types at Chanel dropped us a video above along with the tantalising message: 'As we count the days until October 15, let's hear the first words from the first No.5 man'. Yes, Brad Pitt SPOKE in the preview for the fragrance campaign, simply saying 'What's the mystery?' in his dulcet tones.
And when we arrived in the office bright and early this morning, there was a yet another overnight line from Chanel with the final version of the ad, in which an admittedly ravishing Brad speaks directly to camera saying, “It’s not a journey – Every journey ends. We go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear – Dreams take over. But wherever I go, there you are: My luck. My Fate. My Fortune. Chanel No.5, Inevitable.”
