What happens when a nail fanatic lands in a nation also obsessed with nail art? Well, the nails spoke for themselves when Katy Perry arrived in Japan with a set of incredible cartoon nails inspired by telly show Daria. Genius! Currently promoting her movie Katy Perry: Part Of Me, the singer couldn’t resist the skills of the talon-ted (sorry, couldn’t resist) nail experts at ES Nails in the capital Tokyo. Katy tweeted, “It doesn't get any better than hand painted DARIA nails by the girls at ES Nails TOKYO!”. And we can't argue with that.

We’re particuarly impressed that Katy's nails, covered in the characters' faces, were hand painted. Yep, rather than slapping on nail wraps, these beauties were painstakingly painted on by a steady-handed technician. Talk about nail art! The '90s-tastic designs also give us an insight into Katy’s youth and come to think of it, Daria's adorkable character makes the perfect fit. Is she showing us a part of her to match the fly-on the wall movie?
One thing's for sure, we’ve seen a variety of nail designs grace Katy’s nails over the years from Oompa Loompa creations to cute Kitty Cats. The kooky star has long enjoyed portraying what’s going on in her life through her nails - who could forget the Russell Brand MINX nails, par exemple?
