Backstage at the autumn/winter 2012 Prada show we were pretty thrilled to find that the brand had deviated from the au naturel look favoured by the brand over past few season. Models were given heavily emphasised peepers, painted with colours that were far from natural. Who could forget those neon orange brows, darkly shaded sockets and rich purple under-eyes?
We have to admit that we had prepared ourselves for a return to a barely-there beauty look for spring/summer 2013. Yesterday however, we were happily proved wrong. Whilst skin was still flawlessly matte and understated, we were excited to see the models sporting statement lips in a striking matte red shade.
Scarlet lip-liner was drawn on just outside the lip line to create the illusion of a bigger pout, before it being filled in with a vivid red. A thin strip of white highlighter was then applied to the cupid’s bow in order to make lips appear bigger still. The trend we spotted last week at LFW also played on the coloured lip but Prada, in true Milan style, has taken the trend one step further with the larger than-life-pout.
Brows were well-groomed, unlike the bold and busy trend at LFW, and the lashes left bare to allow the lips to take centre stage. Over in hair, stylist Guido Palau created undone French twists and brought the ends over the top of the head and on to the forehead to create the illusion of a roughly-cut, quirky fringe, not unlike that of our favourite FROWer, Alexa Chung.
