Step 1: Prepare your nails

Tidy your cuticles. Use a sponge board buffing block to remove the nails' shine  and smooth ridges. Then swipe a little nail varnish remover over the nails to get rid of any dust or oil which can stop the falsies sticking

Step 2: Find the right false nail

Measure the false nails against your nail bed. You want them to fit snugly from wall to wall - any gaps means that they're too small.

If you can't find a nail that's the right size, go a size up and file down the sides. Make sure you file each side evenly to ensure the nail is not lopsided.

Step 3: Glue!

Hold the tip of the nail and put a few drops of glue on the side that will lie near the cuticle.

Step 4: Stick!

Place the false nail on your actual nail so there's a 5mm gap between the cuticle edge of the falsie and your actual cuticle. Push it backward and downwards towards your cuticle. Lever the nail forwards to stick it down and ensure there are no air bubbles.

Step 5: Shape

Once you're done, the nails should look like this. Time to decide on their shape...

For a pointed shape file from the side to the central tag with a flat nail file. For a rounded tip, tilt the file and use it to flatten the end of the nail.

You can seesaw on false nails so it shouldn't take too long!

Step 6: Paint with a base colour

Once you have your shape, paint your nails with a nude polish. It will dry very quickly on your false nails.

Step 7: Draw the shape you want

Use a silver nail art polish (Jenni used Kiss Nail Artist) to draw the outside edge of your french tips.

Step 8: Fill in the shape

Fill in the shape using the silver polish in downwards strokes.

Step 9: Tidy and top coat

Use nail remover on a small brush to tidy up the tips of each nail and then add a top coat for shine and to make the look long lasting.

Step 10: Removing

Soak the nails in acetone to remove them without damaging your own.
