How To Get The Many Hairstyles Of Alexa Chung By Her Hairstylist George Northwood

Doesn’t Alexa Chung’s up-do look super chic? The TV presenter, model, It girl, designer, general style icon (we could go on) was spotted rocking new-look hair at the Louis Vuitton extravanganza in Shanghai on Wednesday night and it certainly caught our attention.

The super glam style is one we're not used to seeing on the Chungster who typically sticks to her hipster look of loose waves accented by a shaggy Birkin-perfect fringe. She might not mix up her cuts very often but with a little tweak here and there, she can make her mop one of the most versatile 'dos of all time.

Us mere mortals need the expertise of professionals to coif our tresses into a similar array of fab shapes, but Alexa knows how to keep it interesting with the simple addition of a schoolgirl clip, a scrunch of mousse or a sweet-as-pie hairband.

To discover just how the starlet gets her many hair-dos, we grilled her actual hairdresser George Northwood. Click through the gallery above for his top tips...

The Up-Do

1. George says to use a mousse on wet hair, before rough drying and blowdrying the fringe forwards.

2. Tie the hair into a ponytail in the middle of the back of the head. Pull out sections around the face.

3. Use the WAM curling iron to curl the front sections and the ponytail itself before spraying with a Redken shine spray.

4. Either wrap and pin a piece of hair around the hairband or tie a piece of ribbon around for full on Alexa style.

Waves and a headband

1. Use a mousse like Kerastase's to add some texture to the hair before rough drying.

2.Blowdry the fringe forewards with a round brush, curling it underneath. Sweep each side outwards to give the winged effect on the cheekbones.

3. Use WAM tongs to add a wave to the hair

4. Brush through with a Mason Pearson brush and add finishing polish like Pureology's Cuticle Polisher

5. Add a hairband in the middle of the top of the head, just behind the ears.

Big and tousled

1. Use mousse and rough dry, blowdrying the fringe forward.

2. Use tongs to add a wave to random sections

3. Create body with a matte finish using Redken Powder Grip.

4. DON'T BRUSH IT!

Beachy texture

1. Add Shu Uemura texture spray, then rough dry (blowdrying the fringe forawrds around a small round brush.)

2. Once dry, plait random sections and leave in for a while.

3. Take out and spray with a light hairspray like Pureology's.

4. Give it a scrunch and you're done.

Ombre!

1. Use a volumising spray like Shu Uemura's Liquid Mineral Texture spray on wet hair and then rough dry while twisting sections

2.Add a hair powder

3.Alexa's fringe is grown out here and swept to the sides

For the colour: Backcomb the hair and add bleach to the ends. Don't leave the bleach on for too long, you want orange blonde rather than creamy blonde.

A cute clip

1. Use a Pureolgy mousse and their anti-split blowdry lotion to smooth the hair and give it shine.

2. Blowdry with a large round brush, taking sections and rolling the brush through.

3. Add Keristase Elixer to add shine, brush through

4. Part the hair just off centre and add a clip level to the eyes. Backcomb the hair under the clip to help it stay for longer.

Romantic and groomed

1. Blowdry using a mousse with a firm hold. Use a small round brush, rolling it through sections of the hair.

2. Set in place with pins and grips before taking it out and combing it through.

3.Add a cuticle polisher and brush through

Severe side parting

1. Spritz loads of Redken Modifying Texture Spray on to wet hair.

2. Rough dry while scrunching.

3. Once dry, add more texture spray, scrunching again.

4. Tong random sections at the ends of the hair.

5. Create a deep side parting and spray with a light hairspray like Shu Uemura's.

6. Backcomb throughout to give body and weight. Keep it flat at the top by avoiding the roots.
