Get the Best Speedy Beauty Tips From The Grazia Beauty Girls!
A brand new survey by skincare brand St. Ives this week has revealed that women spend 43 weeks of their life – that’s 91 hours a year, to applying their makeup. Yikes! We were also intrigued to learn that only 13% of women are brave enough to leave the house bare-faced and leave that beauty bag at home.
All this talk of timing got us chatting about our own morning makeup routines and we have consequently realised that being a Grazia beauty team member doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you spend more time on your makeup! Not one person in our team takes more than 15 minutes to get ready in the morning. Get a load of our super speedy makeup tips below. Practice makes perfect !
Beauty Director Liz Hambleton Takes 2 Minutes
I’m a speedy lady when it comes to my morning makeup. I begin with a mini facial massage with Weleda’s brilliant [a href="http://www.weleda.co.uk/Balms/Skin-Food-75ml/invt/106013" target="_blank">Skin food Cream[/a], £8.95. [a href="http://www.lancome.co.uk/_en/_gb/hydra-zen/hydra-zen-neurocalm-085262.aspx">Lancôme Hydra Zen Anti Stress Tinted Moisturise[/a], £26 is next up - it gives my skin a soft focus glow, while also offering killer coverage. [a href="http://www.bobbibrown.co.uk/product/5141/7910/Makeup/Face/Foundation/Foundation-Stick/Award-Winner/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick[/a], £28 is a great go-to for extra coverage when and where I need it. I couldn’t live without my brown [a href="http://www.blincuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=11" target="_blank">Blinc Mascara[/a], £15.50 too.
Beauty Writer Rose Beer Takes 5 minutes
I’m not one for hanging around in the morning. First up is skincare, which I add to well-cleansed skin before leaving for work. I apply one pump of [a href="http://www.cremedelamer.co.uk/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT5580&PRODUCT_ID=PROD73348" target="_blank">Crème de la Mer The Lotion[/a], £160 and one of [a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/229502/Product.aspx" target="_blank">Darphin Arovita- C [/a][a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/229502/Product.aspx" target="_blank">Line Response Firming Serum[/a], £58 to my finger-tips before blending them together and patting onto my face. The 30 minute journey to work is perfect for allowing it to sink in.
On arriving at work it takes about 3 minutes add makeup. I blend [a href="http://uk.spacenk.com/Just-Skin-Tinted-Moisturiser/MUK200001587,en_GB,pd.html" target="_blank">Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser[/a], £55 with MAC’s glow-giving Strobe Cream, £22.50 and massage it on before finishing with a dusting of [a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/shaded/159/1343/Mineralize-Skinfinish-Natural/index.tmpl" target="_blank">MAC Skin Finish in Medium[/a], £21. Next up is a sweep of Stila’s genius [a href="http://stila.co.uk/collections/cheeks/products/custom-color-blush-self-adjusting-coral" target="_blank">Custom Colour Self Adjusting Blush[/a], £13 and some of my fave [a href="http://www.clinique.co.uk/product/1606/5232/Makeup/Mascara/Lash-Doubling-Mascara/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Clinque Lash doubling Mascara[/a], £16. Easy!
Beauty Intern Alice Takes 8 Minutes
With 8 minutes on my hands it’s important to make sure my face is fully primed and ready for makeup. My skin is particularly dry so I like to lather on Clinique’s robust and luxurious [a href="http://www.clinique.co.uk/product/1676/5116/Skin-Care/De-Aging/Repair-247/Superdefense-SPF25-Age-Defense-Moisturizer/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Superdefence[/a], £27 to do this.
Next up is my war paint. Art was never my strong point at school so I use my fingers to smooth on [a href="http://www.esteelauder.co.uk/product/688/20671/Product-Catalog/Skincare/By-Category/Moisturisers/Daywear-BB/Anti-Oxidant-Beauty-Benefit-Creme/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Estée Lauder’s BB Cream[/a], £32. I then go back and build up coverage on the areas I feel more conscious about. [a href="http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/shaded/157/278/Select-Cover-Up/index.tmpl" target="_blank">MAC Select Cover Up[/a], £14.50, is a saviour for tired eyes!
Curling eyelashes takes 10 seconds but makes a world of difference. I always add [a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Max-Factor-False-Lash-Effect-Mascara_641711/" target="_blank">Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara[/a], £10.99 - two sweeps widen eyes instantly. Coral blue is my favourite liner for summer, but I swap it for a darker shade when I fancy it to give a nod to a smoky eye effect without going the whole hog. A touch of mascara on the lower lids and the peepers are good to go.
With a large brush sweep I sweep bronzer across my cheek bones and add a touch to my nose and chin (the areas the sun hits first).
Perfectly applied lipstick is a bit ambitious for my 8 minutes but I find that Dior Addict Lip Glow, £22, enhances and nourishes perfectly. It’s very addictive indeed!
Beauty Co-Ordinator Angelica Hermon Takes 10 Minutes…
I am definitely one for prioritising my lotions and potions as opposed to spending ages applying makeup. It’s so important to look after your skin and well-moisturised skin gives makes for a much better base when it comes to adding makeup. After two minutes of brushing my teeth (I’m a good girl), and showering, it’s on to a rich body lotion, at the moment [a href="http://www.cremedelamer.co.uk/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT5577&PRODUCT_ID=PROD100699" target="_blank">Crème de la Mer The Reparative Body Lotion[/a], £120.
By minute four I’m ready to slather on my [a href="http://www.intraceuticals.com/dailyserums.html" target="_blank">Intraceuticals Rejuvinate Daily Serum[/a], £130.95 and then a smidge of [a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/153278/Product.aspx" target="_blank">Sisley All Day All Year Face Cream[/a], £216.
Minute five takes me a quick slick of mascara, this week it’s [a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/89333/Product.aspx" target="_blank">YSL False Lash Effect Mascara[/a], £23 – I always leave my mascara on for 2 or 3 days at a time so it will be another layer over yesterday’s remains, a look I have long been in favour of.
By minute six I apply a bit of [a href="http://www.bobbibrown.co.uk/product/2330/8197/Makeup/Eyes/Eye-Shadows/Eye-Shadow/New-Shades/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Bobbi Brown pale brown Eyeshadow in Cement[/a], £16.50 and [a href="http://www.shuuemura.co.uk/makeup/eyes/eye-liners/drawing-pencils.aspx" target="_blank">Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil Eyeliner[/a],£15 whilst my serum and cream are still sinking in and then on minute seven it’s a quick layer of [a href="http://www.boots.com/en/No7-Intelligent-Colour-Foundation_15520/" target="_blank">No 7 Intelligent Colour Foundation[/a], £15.50.
Up to minute 8.5 and it’s a spritz of scent, today it was Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin, £38 and then by minute nine it’s a quick spray of [a href="http://uk.spacenk.com/NO-FUSS-FABULOUSNESS-DRY-SHAMPOO/MUK200008200,en_GB,pd.html?start=15&cgid=BRANDS&prefn1=brand&prefv1=PERCY%20AND%20REED" target="_blank">Percy & Reed Dry Shampoo[/a], £12 to add hair volume and last of all a brush through with my Tangle Teezer, £10.99. Ten minutes on the dot and ready to go!
Beauty Intern Chiara Merullo Takes 15 Minutes
There is something so therapeutic about taking your time to get ready. Before a promising Saturday night, I like to spend a good fifteen minutes sprucing myself up. First, I make sure my face is suitably hydrated with the wonderful, [a href="http://www.clinique.co.uk/product/4323/19780/Just-Arrived/NEW-Turnaround-Concentrate-Radiance-Renewer/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Clinique Turnaround Concentrate Radiance Renewer[/a], £33. Moisturised skin creates a better base for makeup to sit, so that when I apply coverage later, I give off the appearance of glowing, even skin.
I can easily spend ten minutes on my eyes - nothing amps up the glam factor like a smouldering, smoky look. Before I get to work, I use [a href="http://www.shuuemura.co.uk/accessories/eyelash-curlers/eyelash-curler.aspx" target="_blank">Shu Uemura eylash curlers[/a], £20 to create that perfect curl. I then pair a light base with a darker colour and make sure I take my time to blend the two together flawlessly. I finish the sultry look with a few sweeps of [a href="http://www.lancome.co.uk/_en/_gb/makeup/eyes/mascara/hypnose-162019.aspx" target="_blank">Lancome Hypnose Mascara[/a], £21 and a lick of [a href="http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/shaded/151/323/Products/Eyes/Liner/Eye-Kohl/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Mac Kohl Eyeliner in Smolder[/a], £12.50 (genius for its ever constant presence).
Once the hardest part is over, I return to my skin and smooth in a primer (nothing beats [a href="http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/174/967/Prep-Prime-Skin/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Mac Prep and Prime[/a], £19.50) followed by hero product, [a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/37680/Product.aspx" target="_blank">Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser[/a], £33. Using a large rounded brush I contour my cheeks with [a href="http://www.esteelauder.co.uk/product/8642/1831/Applications/Seasonal-Looks/Bronze-Goddess-2012/face/Bronze-Goddess/Soft-Matte-Bronzer/index.tmpl" target="_blank">Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess[/a], £25-perfect for elusive sunkissed look. With so much going on the eye front , I like to keep my lips simple, just a slick of [a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Nivea-Lip-Care-Pearly-Shine_6753/">Nivea’s Pearl and Shine[/a], £2.29 finishes me off.
