Have You Seen Chanel's New Blue Illusion Collection That Launches TODAY?

We're excited people. Today is the day that Chanel launch their much awaited Blue Illusion Collection. And in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past century, we’ll remind you: remember that fantastical Chanel Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012 show that Karl curated in which models paraded down a runway inside an aeroplane? And A-listers and fashionistas sat in the aeroplane seats with jaws dropped to the ground at the extent Karl went to? Yes, well that’s the one we are talking about.

So today, the makeup collection goes on counter and we can only predict that there could well be a few fisty cuff moments at department stores throughout Blighty. The theme of the collection is travel, of course, and we think you are going to love it. Our favourite is the nail varnish, Le Vernis Nail Colour in Sky Line, which is the chicest shade of powdery sky blue we’ve ever laid eyes on. There’s also a gorgeous Eye Pencil in Bleu Aerin and a beautiful Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow in Apparition that will make you want to jet off on a swanky jet just so you too can sport it on your lids like the Chanel models.

Makeup master Peter Philips, Chanel’s Creative Director, was just given the simple brief of ‘blue’ by Mr. Largerfeld! “So I chose to focus on the eyes and to add a touch of pearl on the nails” he said. “In combination with the hair statements, the most flattering and contemporary solution for the models was to have a simple kohl-eye look, but instead of black kohl, I created a blue-khol.” We love!

“Bleu Aérien is a new intense blue eye pencil that I applied to contour the eyes. I created two new Illusion d'Ombre. The shade Apparition is an intense, greyish blue that I applied on top of the eye pencil, fading out towards the outer corner of the eye, and Destination is a pale, silvery satin blue that I used on the inner corner of the eye and very moderately under the eyebrow” (take notes girls, take notes).

“For the nails I created a pale pearl blue shade called Le Vernis - Sky Line. It's a beautiful, easy to apply, pearly (on the edge of metallic) shade that matched perfectly with the range of blues that Karl used for this Haute Couture CollectionOh Peter, we salute you! And we’ll definitely painting our nails blue today in tribute to this mighty fine collection.
