First Look At The Makeup In Karl Lagerfeld's Collection For Shu Uemura!

17 July 2012 by

Last month we reported that fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld is collaborating with Shu Uemura on a beauty collection! Now we’ve had our first tiny glimpse of what to expect and it’s mega cute.

The designer has released a teaser video for the line he’s created with the brand. It introduces us to its super sweet mascot “Mon Shu Girl”! She’s a chic cartoon character with a sharp bob and a pristine face of makeup, blending “Japanese pop with European chic”.

"Mon Shu Girl" comes to life after being drawn by a cartoon Karl using his own Shu collection. This is a nod to the fact that Karl uses Shu Uemura eyeshadows to draw his fashion illustrations! He has previously said: “I design with Shu Uemura make-up because other manufacturers do not offer such beautiful colours.”

Not only does Karl sketch with Shu Uemura products, the designer was friends with the late makeup expert for 20 years. During his long career as a designer, Karl has changed the face of fashion and during Shu’s career, he turned beauty into art. The two admired each other's talent and success. We’re surprised this collab hasn’t happened earlier!

The collection, as previewed in the video, includes lipstick, blusher and a neon green eyeshadow. It’s launching just in time for Christmas and we cannot wait! Especially since Karl’s previous foray into beauty – his fragrance, Karleidoscope (yes, really!) - came with an application sponge shaped like his head. We hope that the packaging will be just as fun this time round.
