Whoop! Nichole Richie is Set to Launch a Fragrance

22 June 2012 by

In the wake of Justin Beiber talking about his new fragrance “Girlfriend” as it launched stateside this week, on Tuesday we discussed the enormous success of the celebrity fragrance market over the past few years and threw about some celebrity fragrance facts for good measure. Now we hear that Nicole Richie is the latest celeb to have given herself the task of creating a scent.  Excitement!  We quite love Miss Richie’s fashion and beauty style sense here in the beauty department, (the cute pink dip die she trialled earlier this month was a handsdown hit at Grazia HQ), so needless to say we're intrigued into how she will bottle her sense of style...

Richie explains that the fragrance is in fact inspired by the layered scents built up with oils and lotions that her mother wore when she was a child, telling WWD - “I have a very traditional Southern mom - you never left the house without lotion…Over her lotion went oil and perfume — she was very put together from head to toe. It wasn’t just a one-dimensional smell — there were many different layers.”  Interesting right? From this process Nicole deduced that that amber, vanilla and and cashmere woods must make the cut, sitting alongside blackberry, Seville orange and Moroccan rose also.

Nicol collaborated closely with designer Dale Brandon Kan to mastermind the Art-deco inspired bottle that you can see above.  “I wanted it to represent different layers of a woman, which is what I try to do with Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960,” said Richie, speaking of her fashion label.  “I’m very particular in the way that I create. We’re in an interesting time right now where women aren’t just one thing — there are many different parts to a woman. So I wanted to create a very intricate bottle that was still elegant, but not so in-your-face girly at the same time.”

Set to launch stateside in September, we suspect that it will land in Blightly not long after and with regards to further forays into the beaut industry, Richie has hinted that she would like to focus on hair. “I’m not great with makeup, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to do a makeup line at the moment, but hair is something where I know the world very well, and so I probably will be focusing on that sometime soon,” she said.

Will you be giving Nicoles scent a spritz?
