Scarlett Johansson at 'The Avengers' premiere in London last night
It’s no secret that plaits are huge news this season and played starring roles in their various forms at Roberto Cavalli, Iceburg, Thakoon and Moschino to name but a few. And it appears that Scarlett Johansson has been brushing up on her catwalk references because last night, she turned up at Westfield in Shepherds Bush for the premiere of 'The Avengers' sporting a black and red Prada dress with a replica of Valentino’s wrap-around braid.
It’s no easy task, but if we were to name this season’s number one braid it would have to be the one that turned up in the busy backstage area at Valentino in Paris, where notorious session stylist Guido Palau conjured up a perfectly ethereal wrap-around French braid to complement a makeup look that was about enhancing models’ natural feautures and crowning the image of the super-femine Valentino woman. 'In the past few seasons, designers Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri have really established their Valentino woman,' said Guido Palau. 'She’s soft and romantic with a step toward nostalgia.'
The Valentino Plait
Want to know how to do it? Of course you do! Guido first blew hair out with Redken All Soft Argan-6 Oil to achieve a shiny, smooth and flawless finish before plaiting it around the entire crown, letting wayward strands fall where they may and embracing all manner of flyaways so as to strike the perfect balance between ladylike, girly, edgy and fashion-forward.
We particularly love the way that Scarlet gave the look an edge by adding a hot red lip and slick of '60s eyeliner. What do you make of the look?
