Beyonce, Alexa Chung, Lady Gaga & Jessie J Nail The Modern Manicure

We've been obsessed with nail art ever since Sharmadean Reid and Wah Nails became THE place to go for a funky manicure. Forget about buying the Isabel Marant high-top trainers or the new Alexander Wang bucket bag, patterned nails are the hot trend this season - and they're not nearly as expensive. Woot! We've seen the likes of Alexa Chung and Lady Gaga working their wacky designs and backstage at our favourite fashion shows, things are looking finger-licking good! Check out our gallery above for our favourite looks and get inspired...

Beyonce

First up is Beyonce Knowles who we spotted hitting town with a set of ultra fabulous nails - pointed to within an inch of their life with hot red tips, they are very on-trend and scream cool like nothing else. We think they're a bit Gaga-esque but way better and are thinking about getting ours done just the same. We bet Jay-Z really digs the too although we wonder if they make changing Blue Ivy Carter's nappy rather tricky? Hmmm...

Jessie J

Next up we loved Jessie J's gorgeous leopard mani she wore to celebrate her Platinum selling album. We love a bit of leopard (no it's not trashy or chavvy thank you very much) and think Jessie works it pretty darn well. We love her take on the pastel trend with the lilac and pistachio green colours underneath the small but perfectly formed leopard print. Ultra cool but possibly not one to try at home without disaster. Best to seek out Jessie's nail guru Jenny Longworth for a little helping hand.

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung really reignited our love of nail art when she was spotted on the FROW at Fashion Week with a rather blooming gorgeousset of nails - all ten of them done with little eyes. True genius. Oh Alexa, trust you to be so darn cool!

Lady Gaga

T'would be rude not to mention the Queen of Pop herself, Lady Gaga, who was seen out and abut in the Big Apple looking as crazy and strange as ever yet with a highly covetable manicure. This time they were long red talons with small black embellishments on them in the form of matte black crystals. Vulgar in a vampire kind of way. We reckon she might have taken inspiration form Alexander McQueen's Autumn Winter 11 show where models worked similar lengthy nails but Gaga's were way more out there and in your face, of course.

Whitney Port

Hollywood hills babe Whitney Port was spotted at a fashion party in LA wearing a rather cool set of black and white Aztec print nails which we LOVE! How very on-trend of her. They were the perfect shape - not too pointed or square - and looked utterly fab with her fashionable black ensemble. Similarly, Katy Perry had black and white checkered nails when she performed at the MTV Music Awards although hers were a little longer and out there. It's all about the black and white combo girls...

Alexander McQueen

One glance at the Spring Summer 12 catwalks and you can see that it's going nail crazy on all fronts. Nail queen Marian Newman created a stunning Minx nail at the Alexander McQueen show to go with the water/sea creature inspired clothes. She did a light pink base and then layered over a silver swirl design to give the impression of sea foam. Genius! "The level of craftsmanship and the brief of the collection pushed me to explore new techniques and designs", said Marian, "I really enjoy the different challenges that come with each collection and always look forward to the show, as it is truly a unique experience.” We heart McQueen too!

DSquared2

The festival-chic girls at DSquared2 had the coolest of mani's to go with their disheveled hair and glittery makeup. They had a statement black set of nails each with a long diamond encrusted talon on each hand. Bling but in an understated way. We think we might try and rock this at the summer festivals this year in tribute to DSquared2's ultimate disco nail.

Topshop Unique

At the Topshop Unique Show nail girl Sophy Robson created an Egyptian themed nail for the girls. She first painted each nail a different colour - gold, pink, blue, yellow - and then painted small Egyptian Hieroglyphics on top. Amazing! This was one of our favourite mani's of the season actually and when one member of Graizia Team Beauty went on holiday to Egypt recently she took note of the symbols to recreate this look. Can't say it was quite as successful as the Unique show though...
