So peeps, it's a wrap. Yep, the Autumn Winter 2012 shows are done and dusted after an amazing marathon run. All the trends we've seen can be a tad baffling considering the summer sun isn't quite here yet, but we've spent the past month travelling through four fashion cities to bag all the backstage beauty looks and we couldn't possibly keep them all to ourselves. So here's a handy round-up of our top trends so you can be prepared when autumn strikes...
1. The Return of the Top Knot
Grazia Team Beauty have long been the fans of the top knot so seeing it back on the catwalks really put a smile on our faces. Mary Katrantzou's disheveled bun was the perfect side of messy cool and we can't wait to see more of it come Autumn time. Be warned though - this one requires a large amount of hairspray to keep it firmly in place all day long. Louis Vuitton did a slightly sleeker, neater version which we loved too.
2. Heavy Lids
Eye liner is always a winning look but for next season it's all about layering it on thick. Be generous with your liquid to get this one right. From Philip Lim to Topshop Unique, a heavy lid will be all the rage come September - think glam-rock meets East end cool. You might want to start perfecting this look now as it's not the easiest of lines to get right. And arm yourself with a good liner too (we love Eyeko and Bobbi Brown).
Hair is going colour crazy next season if the runways are anything to go by. Jean Paul Gaultier went for goth style hair colours, quelle surprise. Think dusty pinks, oranges and bright blue which were worked along the models' root line rather than the ends. COuld this be the new dip-dye du jour? We think it might be. Girls at the Pringle show worked a more conventional dip-dye, which we have long been fans of. Whichever one you go for, be sure to book yourself into Bleach to avoid any disastrous hair horrors.
4. French Lacquer
Nail queen Marian Newman cooked up a storm with her French manicure nails seen at McQueen - it was a soft white lacquer over sheer beige which we thought was super chic and gorgeous. Over at the Topshop Unique show we saw the classic French mani too, think subtle, neat nails rather than anything too TOWIE! Nails will be going along the route of groomed and understated with that little bit of edge.
5. Take a Brow
With eyebrow attention still heavily on the rise, it was no shock to see such a focus on them at the AW12 shows. There was a mono-brow at Pam Hogg, thick brown ones at Burberry thanks to Wendy Rowe and even full beaded beauties at Chanel. Trust Chanel's makeup man Peter Philipps to think so outside the box - he fixed stone encrusted mesh panels onto the models' brows and according to Grazia's Beauty Director Liz Hambleton who snuck backstage it looked, "Totally gorgeous and different. Very Chanel-egant!"
6. Look the Part
Whilst we saw all manner of hair-do's across the fashion cities, one thing we did notice was the comeback of the side parting. An easy one to do at home, all you need is a good comb and neat, straight hair. Matthew Williamson and DKNY nailed this one and we love the simplicity of the look. It's slightly old-school yet totally right for 2012. A middle parting is so last season girls.
7. Blue Period
At the Stella McCartney show in Paris, backstage beauty Pat McGrath injected an explosion of subtle colour onto the models with a cobalt blue cat eye and long, blue lashes. Stella had said to Pat, "I just love a girl with colour on her lashes", and that's exactly what she got. For Spring/Summer we have been playing around with more turquoise shades of blue so by Autumn we will be ready to play with a darker royal blue version. As ever Stella, you have inspired us.
8. Berry Good
We do love a berry red lip and are delighted to see it was such a hit on the catwalks for next season - everyone from John Richmond to Viktor & Rolf was berrylicious! Whilst the classic red lip will always be a fail-safe option, a cranberry red or even darker red wine lip packs a more punchy look which we can imagine sporting in the depths of winter with our cosy knits and fur coats (faux of course). Don't be shy to give this one a go, it works a treat on both blondes and brunettes.
9. All Hail the Braid
We've loved the braid ever since Charles Worthington created that gorgeous angelic halo at Erdem a few seasons ago. And thankfully, AW is full of them too. Hair hero Sam McKnight worked a Roman-esque braid on Cara and co. at the Fendi show whilst at Emilio Pucci we saw the classic single head band braid on the models. This is our rainy day hair-do - one you can just pull out the bag to guarantee a pretty, polished look that lasts all day.
10. Bare Faced Beauty
If you're a low maintenance kinda girl then this will be music to your ears: bare-faced beautifulness is back and it's better than ever. Yes, quite literally so good that you can basically roll out of bed and look catwalk-ready just like that. It was everywhere from Margaret Howell to Acne and it's one that requires minimal effort. It's that 'no make-up' make-up look coming all into it's own once again. Hurray!
