Keira Knightley Works a Retro Beauty Look at the London Premiere of 'A Dangerous Method'

We’d hazard a guess that it’s been almost a year since Keira Knightley has been out and about on the red carpet, but last light the British beauty made a very impressive return to the limelight at the London premiere of 'A Dangerous Method'. While everyone else ooh-ed and ahh-ed over her burgundy Burberry dress and giggled at her comments about the, well, spanking scene from the movie (Miss Knightley: 'I did think about turning it down because of the two scenes of a sadomasochistic nature…In England it's got mentioned all the time…We obviously like spanking'), here in the beauty department, we're ogling her marcel waves, smoky eye, full-on brows and pale pink bee stung pout. In fact, make-up artist Zoe Taylor, who created the lovely beauty look, could hardly have squeezed in so many spring/summer 2012 catwalk trends if she tried...

1. Retro Beauty

Regular Grazia Daily readers will know that retro beauty is huge news this season, debuting on the catwalk a Gaultier, Dior, Jason Wu and YSL with a veritable flood of celebrities following suit in the past few weeks.  We particularly like the Keira’s nod to the trend, focusing less on the more traditional red lips and extreme waves, and going for a softer curled up-do and smoky eye combo instead.

2. Big Brows + Smoky Eyes

Kiera’s full-on arches make an exemplary nod to this season’s obsession with brows – They quite literally stormed the catwalk at Versace, Derak Lam, Altuzarra and Ferreti among plenty of others.  When giving this one a go be sure to bear in mind that over plucking is the arch enemy of a good brow, so never remove hairs from the inner edge or on top of the brow. If your eye and brow are close together you should use a light, natural shade to fill in brows and focus on achieving a good, full shape instead of depth of colour.  Meanwhile, those with a greater distance between the brow and eye can go up to two shades darker than their natural colour for a bold look.

Zoe makes Kiera’s chocolate peepers pop beautifully by mixing Bobbi Brown Shadows in Taupe, Steel and Expresso and adding a generous slick of Lord and Berry Smudgeproof Eyeliner to the tearline and intos the lashes.  A few layers of the fabulously full on Estée Lauder Projectionist Mascara in Black and you have it!

3. Simple Skin

And finally…Do bear in mind that when making bold make up statement like this one it’s essential to focus on one element, so either the eyes or the lips and to keep skin as nude as possible – this will ensure that the look stays fresh and youthful. Zoe prepped skin with Decleor Neroli Oil (a personal fave of ours jusy f.y.i) and the amazing Sisley All Day All Year Cream before adding a sheer layer of Chanel Vitalumiere Foundation and a dusting of NARS Blush in Gina.

Will you be giving Keira's look a go?
