When I was younger, more naive and less product savvy, I made the mistake of asking a well-meaning but firm lady on a well-known cosmetic counter if her pore-shrinking wonder product would help me erase the slightly bloated pores around my nose. ‘Look’, she said bluntly, obviously in the throes of a hangover, ‘no matter what product you buy, you’ll never get rid of those babies. They’re there for life’.
Horrified at this omission, I tried countless other pore-minimising/shrinking portions, each to no avail. The bitch was right. While you can temporarily shrink pores, you’ll never close the bastards forever.
So the only solution is to look for some kind of cosmetic pollyfilla to fill the gaps. Benefit’s latest offering, the Porefessional, promises to minimize the appearance of pores, giving you a more even appearance. I have always liked Benefit, and have always been seduced by their packaging and kitch-y instructions, which sometimes made me overlook the quality or effectiveness of their products.
The Porefessional is a lightweight balm that starts as a beige colour, but once applied to the skin, turns translucent and matt. It can be applied either before or after make-up (the pack comes complete with how-to instructions and diagram) to smooth the skin.
I put it to the test on my bare skin, and I have to admit, it did smooth over the tiny crevices around my nose, and the appearance of some childhood scars, and my lightweight makeup (which usually highlights every pore) went on smooth and easy, compared to the other side of my face, where pores were still visible. The Porefessional also acts as an amazing base for make-up, as it creates a smooth and matte canvas for the foundation to sit on.
This is an ideal product for lightweight pore coverage, and it can be used daily, or if, if like me, your weekday makeup is minimal, save it for the weekend.
Keep an eye out for Benefit’s Get Glam collaboration with Diet Coke, the cans are super cute and you also get £5 off with every £20 spent on Benefit online, nice!
The Porefessional comes in at a reasonable £23.50 and is available online and from Benefit counters nationwide.
