Hot Hair Trend: Marina Diamandis, Kelly Osbourne, Pixie Geldof Go Grey Gracefully

Finding your first grey hair might send the fear of God into us, but with a whole movement of grey-haired celebrities and models walking the runway, going grey gracefully is becoming a little easier to swallow.

When Jean Paul Gaultier sent models down his Autumn / Winter 2011 catwalk with ginormous grey beehives, it was a celebration of ageless style, created by hair supremo Guido Paulo. Cut to this week and here's Marina Diamandis (aka: amazing Marina and the Diamonds songstress and all-round style-setter) sporting a new fringe and yep, grey hair. She's kept it feminine thanks to a pretty lilac tone that's the perfect transition from the pink hue she previously sported.

As Grazia Daily reported last week, Kelly Osbourne is already a championer of the trend, despite her mother's naysaying. She took to the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday with a silvery 'do that accented the old school glamour of her Zac Posen gown. Yep, Kelly O rocked granny chic with ease - and she certainly stood out.

Then, of course, there's Abbey Lee Kershaw and the icy blonde mane she's currently working, not to mention Lady Gaga and Kate Moss who briefly dabbled with the trend. And now Pixie Geldof's inching towards becoming a member of the grey crew. She was spotted at the Hugo by Hugo Boss event in Berlin last night rocking a wonderful bouffant that's rather reminding us of Marilyn Monroe. See, you don't have to go granite grey to work this look.

So why do it? 'Going grey is about being individual, not about following a trend,' Luke Hersheson, backstage hair aficionado, told Grazia Daily. 'You’re creating a character and you want to stand out. It’s not actually a flattering colour for your skin tone so it’s better to opt for a silvery tone. The grey tone is created with a highlighting technique because grey has so many different tones in it, from extreme white to silver.' Ah yes, the wonderfully individual and oh-so-glam Kristen McMenamy springs to mind.

Still not convinced? Why not give the trend a go with a subtle grey streak — it’s only temporary, after all — or start with an icy blonde. OR throw on one of Annabelle’s dip-dyed wigs for a night on the town, exclusive to ASOS for £35. Inspired by this season’s catwalk looks, the professional quality wigs are crafted from the finest synthetic fibres, featuring an ombre style. It's the safest way to go grey — and possibly the funnest.
