We’re pretty sure you’ve already assessed the frocks from last night’s Golden Globes, but here on the Beauty Desk, we’ve been pouring over the feast of hair and make-up looks that made it onto the red carpet. Come and take a look at our favourites...
The Lilac Lip
If you think of lilac as only for Barbies, My Little Ponies and toddlers, then think again. Last night, celebsville went mad for the hue, demonstrating just how versatile and flattering it really is. It's certainly a welcome change amongst a sea of red and we're love those who sported a warm, dusty tone. Evan Rachel Wood teamed her mix of NARS Sex Machine Lip Pencil and Como Larger than Life Gloss with pale skin, a chic eyeliner flick and gorgeous Gucci gown, while Sofia Vergara added bronzed skin and matching shadow to hers. Last but not least is Viola Davis who teamed her lilac shade with lashings of liner.
There’s no ignoring the abundance of 1920s flapper girl inspiration behind this season’s catwalk looks and though we didn’t spot any drop-waisted dresses at the ceremony, we did spend a good 10 minutes swooning over the hairband brigade. Charlize Theron’s sparking Cartier creation brought out our inner magpie and queen of cutsey-cool, Michelle Williams, went for some adorable Fred Leighton headgear, which suited her gamine crop perfectly.
Nails go Neutral
Neutral nails are huge news for Spring/Summer 2011 and it looks like the stars have been swatting up on their trends. Nicole Richie, Sarah Hyland, Shaun Robinson, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sofia Vergara chose to grace their tips with varying takes on nude. Don’t they look classic?
Zooey's Tux Tips
But a special mention goes to Zooey Deschanel’s amazing manicure. 'I am wearing a gown but my nails are wearing tuxedos!!!' the actress tweeted. Yep, painted to look like little suits, her digits provided that signature quirky touch she's famous for and brought a mannish edge to her Prada frock. Ruffian debuted this style on their Autumn / Winter 2011 catwalks and we’ll be sporting these beauties at our next black tie shindig too.
Angelina's Perfect Match
It's Angelina who wins our prize for best beauty look thanks to her slick of crimson red lipstick to match the splash of red at the top of her Versace gown plus her ladylike clutch. It ensured Ange stood out from the other nude gowns at the event and we're awarding top marks for pulling her hair back to make the most of those bee-stunged beauties and that striking neckline. Could she look any more fabulous? We think not!
