We’re not quite sure how Iris Apfel finds the time. After all, the last 18 months have seen the 90-year-old self-labeled ‘geriatric starlet’ Iris Apfel, known for her giant round spectacles and daring outfits, propelled to the prime position of fashion world’s sweetheart.
In between being photographed by Bruce Weber, admired by a whole host of hip young designers, gracing the pages of the New York Times and Vogue, producing her own fashion jewelry line and generally taking the fashion world by storm, Iris has now teamed up with MAC to produce a whopping 20 piece make-up collection.
For those of you who don’t know too much about this fashion doyenne, the Queens-born native started out as an interior designer and textiles expert working together with her husband on a vast portfolio of projects which included updating the White house no less throughout the Truman, Kennedy and Clinton Terms. Wow. Today, however, the lovely lady is better known for her pioneering and ubiquitous style, the culmination of an entire lifetime of dressing up. And quite frankly, what better way to prepare for producing a supremely fashion-forward makeup line?
MAC describe Iris as 'a rare bird who has always been ahead of her time,' and we reckon they’re pretty much spot on. Unsurprisingly, the 20-part collection is seriously high impact, very fashion forward and somewhat heavy in the lipstick department. But fear not, there are plenty of liners, shadows, blushers a mascara and even a lovely glossy red nail varnish which all make a very fitting tribute to this queen of cool.
