We all know that Katy Perry’s not one to get nervous when it comes to experimenting with coloured tresses. There were those pink streaks, the blue and red steaks, those purple ones, ah, and then there was that blue wig too. Not all of the aforementioned managed to float our (arguably conservative) beauty boat, though we did think that her all over hippy pink that arrived in early November this year was actually super cute. Her colorist Rita Hazan described the hue as Katy’s 'Favourite lavender colour.' It was definitely pink right? Either way we thought it tres lovely.
Having just wound up her 8 month long California Dream tour, it appears that the lovely lady was celebrating by whipping yet another colour change out of her extensive hair-drobe. The dramatically different rose streaked bob made its grand debut at the Change Begins Within Benefit Celebration in LA on Saturday and because we haven’t decided how we feel about it so are unashamedly sitting firmly on the fence.
We love Katy and we feel bad to say it but our immediate reaction was that maybe the colour and cut are a teeny bit blah; that pinkiness is neither here nor there, and the bob strikes us slightly too choppy..
On the plus side there’s also something quite chic about Katy’s new look, we love that side parting and it looks shiny, healthy and bouncey. And there’s no denying that colour play is very A/W2011? Painterly bright graced the catwalks at Fendi, Issey Miyake, Jeremy Scott and Prabal Gurung to name but a few and there’s no sign of the obsession disappearing come Spring 2012: Thakoon, Gucci and Julien MacDonald all caused a storm with their wacky and wonderful experiments with colour. Last but not least, let’s not forget the fashion world’s obsession with Charlotte Free and her shocking pink mane. Do we think she might have inspired Katy?
It’s a tricky one. What are your thoughts people?
