BEAUTY TREATLET: We get our hair done at Josh Wood's Atelier!

14 October 2011

Here in Beauty Land, the name on everybody’s lips is Josh Wood. Yes, the hair maestro and A-list fave has finally opened his long awaited Atelier right in the heart of Holland Park and as if that wasn't amazing enough, this week the team gained the lovely George Northwood too - dream combo or what?

With a matte black exterior and white potted hydrangeas, you’ll know you have arrived at the right place and the Atelier is tucked along a residential mews. Behind the sleek façade lies a super stylish yet comfortable space - think wood panelled walls, copious amounts of amusing art work and a ‘living’ wall of green plants. It's more like being in someone’s private home than in the so often sterile environment of your average hair salon. But then again, nothing about the Atelier is average – the team work together like a family and even get together for yoga practice before clients arrive, natch.

Beyond the living-room style reception, the real magic happens. Gone are the individual work stations with mirrors opposite seats synonymous with most hair salons - Josh has created something that is so far from a ‘salon’. Instead, clients are seated at one long glass table, complete with Cire Trudon burning candles, iPads and an array of hip mags to flick through (Ponystep and French Vogue to name a few).

So what excited us most? It had to be the menu (did we mention they have an in-house chef?). Presented to us were delights such as gluten-free brownies (surely a health food, right?) and homemade breads as well as special smoothies filled with hair-boosting ingredients including protein, beta carotene and omega 3. Oh, and not forgetting unlimited tea - think a selection of special brews from around the world rather than your average builder’s cuppa.
Celebsville? You bet. A top secret photoshoot was going on when we were there and a few of the Notting Hill regulars had just been in for a top-up of haute blondness (yes that would be Laura and Elle, of course). Plus, we heard along the beauty grapevine that a certain brunette who is in town with her rainbow brood was going to pop in this week too, sans kiddies we expect. But with prices starting from just £35 for a blowdry, the Josh Wood Atelier is accessible to all. One more thing: it’s available for private events and parties. Yep, seems too good to be true.
So what's stopping you from giving it a visit? Book in today to experience the next generation in hair all for yourself.
