So . . . wanting to up our stretching regime, soothe our aching shoulders from continual desk-based grind, and (although we know this last one is never going to happen) possibly tone our abs for seasonal purposes, we set off to the new TEN Pilates studio in posh Hannover Square in Mayfair.
Although we’ve done pilates before, we were expecting – and got – a particularly twangy, pingy stretch out from TEN studios. The group was small, our instructor patient and attentive, AND, they played a pleasing selection of tunes in the background throughout the session, which did really help keep our concentration going.
TenPilates’ Dynamic Pilates sessions ‘on the reformers’ (basically look like torture racks, but stay with us) is ‘an innovative, results driven workout that uses custom Reformer beds to develop core strength, improve posture and flexibility and build lean, toned muscles.’
Phewf! Basically we held onto the straps of the reformer with our little mitts at the top and our ankles at the bottom and performed various core exercises (tummy and back) to a just about bearable level of reps, as well as the really fun ones – where you use your arms or legs to pull you up and down the reformer like a drawer going in and out of a chest of drawers. Fab. Feeling uplifted and anticipating the stretch in our muscles the next day, we went out to the sunny streets of Mayfair with a mini smile on.
