Face Hunting at the Isle of Wight Festival!

15 June 2011

Kate Moss may have been Festival Queen at this year's Isle of Wight extravaganza but Grazia Daily found a hoard of equally rocking beauty babes when we popped into the MAC tent on site. Among the mud and the mayhem, make-up artists were working around the clock to transform celebrity performers and common folk a-like into festie-appropriate glamazons. So pick up some tips and prepare to be inspired by the Best Faced at IOW! (it’s a working title).

Kicking off the line-up is none other than Pixie Lott who stayed true to her name with this adorable look. Before hitting the stage, the popstrel amped up her usual Brigitte Bardot fare with a smattering of blue and white flowers painted around her brow bone while MAC shades of Marine Ultra and Electric Eel were washed over a lids, making the perfect match for her outfit and matching braided head band. CUTE!

Bona fide beauty buff Sarah Louise Karran was so impressed by Ungaro's A/W '09 show that she bravely took the brilliant two-tone hot orange and fuchsia lips from the catwalk to the festival fields. 'I like mixing things up and trying clashing colours,' she said. Aside from her trusty dry shampoo for that gigantic mane, Sarah Louise’s make-up essential is MAC's multi-tasking cream colour base, which triples up as blusher, lipstick and eye shadow. One stick and job done.

We were instantly charmed by this boho design when we met Harriet Clewes. To soften her graphic black eyeliner, Harriet asked the MAC team to stencil Bronze Pigament in glittering flicks onto her temples and added a rich pink hue to her lips. 'I wanted to enhance my everyday look with a festival twist,' she explained. Pocahontas, eat your heart out!

Behold the lovely Rachel and her beauty look, which she described as 'pop classic'. Which means? Colour popping lipstick, of course! 'When you're at a festival, anything goes so I like to experiment with bolder colours and bring out my Gwen Stefani side.’ Plus, keeping the focus on your lips detracts from post-partying panda eyes - just add sunglasses.

In preparation to see the Foo Fighters, Angelica Hermon asked the MAC maestros to vamp up her look with smoky eyes, a wash of glam rock glitter and a face highlighter to perk up tired skin. How could Dave Grohl possibly resist? As Grazia’s Beauty Assistant and a fountain of all knowledge, we wanted to know what Angelica’s top festival tips are. ‘Wet wipes are a must and in terms of fashion, layer up because you never know when the weather will turn and a hat will provide protection come rain or shine’.

Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani didn't let her hangover affect her maintenance, instead working that just-out-of-bed look with a dewy face and rosy cheeks (MAC's Strobe Cream is a festie girl's best friend, FYI). And for a flash of fun? A cluster of adorbz yellow stars to frame those doe-like eyes.

Can you guess what inspired Christina's dramatic look? Yup, ballet thriller Black Swan. The thick, flicked eyeliner is totes Natalie Portman post-creepy transformation, dontcha think? As for the funky purple lip (MAC's Violetta lipstick), ‘it’s a bright colour that will see me through a multitude of sins from the night before.’ Smart girl.

And after dark, we bumped into Karen Forbes whose striking beauty look had remained in tact despite the drizzle. 'It's all about bright lips at festivals,' she said and seeing as orange is the colour of the season, she splashed it onto her lips, cheeks and nails for a Karen O-inspired look that works brilliantly with her rock chick vibe. Go girl!

So now that festival season is in full swing, we'd love to hear how you'll be beautifying your look - orange stars, gold glitter, black kohl, perhaps?
