When you think Jessie J, you think uber-shiny geometric bob, fluorescent brights, fierce dagger nails, right? Right. So you can't blame us for doing a double take when we clapped eyes on the songstress at a swanky event last night looking less than her typically funky herself.
In fact, she went the whole Hollywood hog, sporting soft waves that tumbled over her shoulders rather than a razor-sharp fringe, pretty rosy cheeks and subtle (aka: not Union Jack) lippy. And from the neck down, she continued the full-on glamour assault, ditching the usual leotard + tights fare for a sparkling floor-grazer. Who'da thunk it?
UPDATE: Our wonderful Beauty Assistant, Angelica, has just returned from a top secret beauty shoot with – yes, you guessed it! - the woman behind Jessie's brand new look. EEEP! Of course, we couldn't miss out on the chance to grill Lyndell Mansfield on how she created those soft locks, so let's start from the beginning…
'I wanted to do something really glamourous because it was an awards ceremony - red carpets are the time to make an effort - so when I got to the Mayfair Hotel, I got out my special bag of tricks! I had a variety of different hair extensions but decided to use the rich burgundy colour, which Jessie often says she likes.
'It had to be long and Jessie wanted movement, so I used the flat iron to make a wave, then brushed it out. As for products, I used L'Oreal Techni Art Constructor followed by Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom, finishing with Kevin Murphy Session Spray to hold it in place. It was a pretty stressful evening beause I had to fix the extensions, do a full cut and style it in under 2 hours, and the make-up was being done at the same time. But it was worth it in the end and Jessie looked like Jessica Rabbit.
'I'd describe the look as a blending of 90's and 40's style – a bit grunge with a touch of glam. You don't see how beautiful Jessie is with her usual hair style falling across her face, and I haven't tried many colours with her before – expect for in her latest video – so it was brilliant to try something different and she was really up for a change. I make sure whoever I work gets a different look, my biggest pet hate is when people get boxed into a category, and this look was particularly special because it was so unexpected.'
Well, we say good work Lyndell and Jessie – we can't wait to see what you come up with next!
