CHRISTINA HENDRICKS Told Karen Elson To Dye Her Hair Red!

04 November 2010

Recently Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks told Harper's Bazaar that while at a modelling casting in Milan in the mid 90’s, she bumped into this girl who said, 'I can't get any work. I'm so sick of this, I'm ready to quit. I love your hair colour. What do you colour your hair with?'. Christina replied, 'Oh, it's red. Here's my formula.' The girl in question turned out to be none other than mega-model Karen Elson who has become famous for her red locks. Eek! "I saw her on the cover of Italian Vogue, and the rest is history!" Wow! What a claim, we thought at the time, unsure what to think. But today we have confirmation from the Elson herself!

At Tuesday night’s WWD 100 Anniversary Gala, Karen said, “I read that story and you know, she did tell me years ago.” The model goes on to say, “We did a shoot together and I remember her beautiful red hair, and I had the worst sort of strawberry blonde mousy hair, and she was like, ‘Here, you should dye your hair red, it’s going to work for you. But then when I came to New York and I was about to work with Meisel and do the cover of Italian Vogue, he was going to choose red or black; and I willed the red. Thanks to Christina Hendricks, I willed it. So yeah, she did influence it." Well, you know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...
