Who would believe it? Doutzen Kroes is a model considered “curvy” by many fashion industry standards, and was in fact one of the “surprise” appearances at Prada’s A/W '10 show [above]. Speaking to Canadian magazine Flare recently, she says that she refuses to deprive herself of food for the sake of fitting the runway ideal.
"I was told to lose weight in the beginning," she says. "I could be considered really skinny by some women in the country, but I think I am one of the [models] who is very close to representing a body more people can relate to. It's important that we are aware of what kind of message we are putting out. There are girls who are eight or 10 years old who are watching what they are eating! I wasn't even thinking about those things at that age. I was eating all the candy I could get my hands on!"
Still, the Canadian mag suggests that eating whatever you want just isn’t in the description for a model; even Doutzen admits that “…prior to the Victoria's Secret fashion show she cuts out carbs and sugar, and follows a juice fast to prep for the occasion, but in general maintains a refreshing outlook about her diet and figure — she eats healthy and exercises, but doesn't deny herself.”
So in light of this revelation, while we all know juice diets are by no means a bundle of laugh, isn’t it a) fairly refreshing to have a model who admits to dieting and b) true that most women tend to diet before a big occasion be it wedding, holiday, or, if your blessed with ridiculously good looks, a Victoria’s Secret show?
