Evan Rachel Wood at a party celebrating the Gucci Icon-Temporary Sneaker Collaboration in October 2009
Our new favourite game might just be…. Trying to think of a celebrity who is not currently the face of a perfume. And so it ‘s not very surprising that news reaches us this morning that the newest face of Gucci fragrance is Evan Rachel Wood.
With her crystal clear porcelain skin, Kidman-esque strawberry blonde hair and ice blue eyes, Wood is certainly striking. And as Gucci creative director says “I chose Evan Rachel Wood as she has very strong character.”

Now don’t be embarrassed if this isn’t a name that immediately resonates. Even Giannini admits “She’s young, but rising and [an] influential figure. I didn’t want to offer this project to someone overexposed or too well known. Instead, I wanted a fresh individual that would coincide with the image of the project.”
At just 22, Wood has so far been a starlet of indie films. You may have caught her breakout Golden Globe nominated performance as a precious out-of-control teen in the controversially gritty Thirteen, or seen her wipe the floor with her deadbeat dad Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.
Evan Rachel Wood with fiancé Marilyn Manson
But most likely she rings a bell because of her on-off-on-off relationship with her now fiancé, the not-terribly-scary goth singer Marilyn Manson. Wood’s reaction to the media scandal at their 19 year age gap, was to be photographed wearing Lolita-esque heart shaped glasses while out with Manson. He then wrote a song called “Heart-shaped glasses” inspired by her and the pair appeared in the porny music video together with Manson claiming hers was the highest-paid music video role ever. Hmm. And if that were scandalous enough, Manson’s first marriage - to fashion’s sweetheart Dita von Teese - appeared to have ended as a result of Woods and Manson’s romance.

So an unusually left field and controversial choice for the luxury label. Is this a sign that Wood’s star is (arguably: once again) in its ascendancy? She has just started filming with Kate Winslet for the forthcoming remake of the Joan Crawford classic Mildred Pierce. Or is Gucci looking to target a younger hipper crowd?
We await the first photos with interest…
