Never afraid to cause controversy, you can always expect some raunch from a Calvin Klein campaign. Case in point: the scantily clad yet child-like Kate Moss in the Obsession perfume ads, and who could forget a 15-year-old Brooke Shields provocatively purring "Nothing comes between me and my Calvins"? Saucy indeed!
With this in mind, you can imagine our surprise to hear Diane Kruger is the new face of Calvin Klein Beauty, a fragrance set to launch this Autumn. As we saw when she glided about the Met Ball in a simple sheath dress (by Calvin Klein obvs), Kruger's become the epitome of charming chic and effortless elegance. So much so that we can’t imagine her semi-naked and oiled up, sprawled seductively beneath Jamie Dornan à la Eva Mendes... So perhaps the brand's A-List acquisition signals a steering away from X-rated shockers in favour of a more demure approach, especially now that Monsieur Klein himself has left the company and the new Creative Director, and Diane’s chaperone last night, Francisco Costa, is at the helm. As we reported last week, Costa is said to be excited about featuring a more grown-up poster girl in the shape of Lara Stone for the AW10 ad campaign, so could change be a-foot at Calvin HQ?
One thing's for sure, Costa’s already played a trump card by getting Diane on board, especially considering she’s an ex-model, so perfectly represents the compromise of Fashion-meets-Hollywood. Oh gosh, with that innate style, those show-stopping cheekbones and Pacey on her arm, we want to hate her, we really do. But honestly, we can't get enough La Krug loving. Long may she reign!
