So as it turns out, Grazia Daily’s new Guest Editor, Chace Crawford is perfectly placed to comment on the top beauty news story of the day – namely that Leighton Meester and her glossy voluminous locks have been signed up as the new global ambassador for Herbal Essences.
“She does have gorgeous hair’ says Crawford of his Gossip Girl cast-mate “I think she’s a good pick for the campaign…. and she’s obviously gorgeous too.”
In fact, rumour has it that Meester beat her big haired cast-mate Blake Lively to the contract (supposedly ad-makers favour brunettes over blonds for hair TV ads, because dark hair gives higher shine and contrast on-screen, making it appear glossier), although our resident Gossip Girl expert notes “Leighton’s hair is a little lighter at the moment, since she’s been in LA”, and he also confirms that the actress wears extensions on-screen to give her that distinctive Blair hair.
And this isn’t Leighton’s first encounter with the ‘poo brand. The star told WWD that back in the day her mom was a fan of the old school bottles, clear with floral patterns, and that her first memory of the brand is of the those iconic raunching ‘oh yes!’ TV commercials (we don’t know if Leighton will have to fake an O on the ads, but maybe she was practicing on a recent episode of Gossip Girl when she wound up Nate and Serena by screaming 'oh Chuck! yes! yes!’, before they walked in on her lazily leafing through a magazine).
More recently, Leighton has returned to the Herbal Essences because her hairdresser Charles Baker Strahan uses it on her and is spokesperson for the brand. And our Guest Editor can confirm it’s working; “her hair always does smell like a bouquet of flowers”.
