Oscars Beauty Highlights!

08 March 2010

We've been unable to de-clamp our eyes from our screens since the ceremony started last night. And it finished a while ago now. As well as being a pretty interesting year for dresses we've rounded up a few of our very favourite looks beauty-wise, and ponder - what trends will this be a-startin'?

The Carey Crop

Carey, Carey Carey. Although you didn't win a shiny one, you've certainly won the fashion world's approval - front page of many a paper and, unusually for Oscar night, (when the bloggers leave their gloves at home and get stuck into critisising months of stylists' work) no one has a bad word to say about her look. We're enamoured of everything about Carey, but particularly her gamine crop. Now she's fully blonde, she's ressurecting the classic Jean Seberg from art house fave - A Bout de Souffle, one of the most elegegantly styled films of its era. Nous t'adorons.

Colour Pop lips

The Oscars is never a night to try out an experimental look that could possibly look strange or wrong from any angle. We LOVE Charlize Theron, Sandra Bullock and Maggie Gyllenhaal's bright flashes of lip colour. Well done ladies.

Great Bun!

These two ladies have opted for formal but super flattering moulded creations, SJP's at the back and Nicole Richie's atop her head. Sarah Jessica's creation is almost as big as the heart-shaped numbers carried off by the models in the Chanel haute couture show from which her dress was chosen.

Perfect Pony

Anna Paquin looked relaxed and in a good mood last night. We love what she did with her hair - a super neat ponytail at the back, all the better to show off her perfect blonde streaks and flawless complexion. Models at DKNY and Gucci were rockin' these on the catwalk most recently. She completes her tidy-not-trussed-up look with no earrings, a streetwise necklace collection plus a beaming smile. Then we caught sight of her hunky boyfriend and thought - maybe that explains her beauty secret.

Wavy Ladies

Okay, okay, so there's nothing original about this soft, wavy do. It's Lauren Bacall via Christian Dior and makes an appearance at every an awards ceremony each year. Oh well, perhaps Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz decided they'd rather have a do that'll look timelessly elegant in all the pictures this year. Or maybe its just the way they roll.
