2010: the year to conquer your fear of lipstick!

11 January 2010

So new research is showing that full, plump lips make us appear younger and generally more healthy and fabulous. But if you’re anything like us, lipstick-wearing can be intimidating at the best of times. As much as we long to wow everyone at a party wearing an on-trend classic red lip, sometimes it can just be too scary. Fears of smudging, fading and lipstick escaping on to everything from teeth to champagne glasses have us reaching guiltily for the much less exciting and glamorous gloss.

In 2010, we’re challenging ourselves to face our fears and it appears our timing could not be better. Not only are bright, full-on lips going top be HUGE this year, but in March Chanel releases Rouge Coco Hydrating Lip Colour – the first lipstick launch that Peter Philips has done since becoming global creative director.

'Women seem to have forgotten how to apply lipstick,' Phillips told WWD. 'I want to make lipstick as easy to apply as lip gloss, and for a long-lasting formula to feel comfortable on the lips.'  Yes, yes, yes, we cry.

At the launch in Paris last month, Philips told Grazia that this long-lasting, hydrating and easy-to-apply formulation, with aerodynamic packaging and shades inspired by Coco Chanel’s life (fabuleuse!), will lure us away from the old gloss in no time.

We couldn’t be much more excited and are prepping our lips in anticipation – a perfect, smooth mouth is the key to lipstick wearing, you know!
