In our eyes the clear winner in the beauty stakes of last night's British Fashion Awards was the classic, always gorgeous red lip. Recently ditched in favour of the huge glunge trend – think dark eyes, dark lips, we were thrilled to see it back on form and being sported by a whole new wave of red lip lovers. Daisy Lowe, Georgia Jagger, Pixie Geldof – even Sarah Harding – managed to pull it off with a fresh new twist.

So what is this hot new twist? Hair must be messy dressy and not too done, skin should glow and be as far away from matte as possible and eyes should be smudgily lined with just a light layer of mascara to keep lashes feathery.

But without a doubt, the ultimate red lip wearer of the night had to be Karen Elson (who managed to keep her cool as she tumbled off the stage and came back up to present her award) with yep, you guessed it, perfectly applied red lips, not a smudge in sight. How does she do it?
Fancy working your own red lipstick look? Go for true reds like Daisy and Georgia and burgundy reds like Pixie and Karen for a modern feel. We love Revlon Lipstick in Love That Red and Revlon Red, or if you're feeling flush nothing beats a classic Chanel Rouge Allure Red...
