One of the things we love most about Rihanna is her feistiness. From her unique fashion sense (who else could have pulled off those looks she rocked in Pareee?) to her ever-changing hairstyles, Ri always keeps style watchers the world over on their toes. But the singer admits it took a while for her to get to this stage. In a recent interview in US Glamour, Rihanna confesses she really had to stand up for herself in order to cement her individuality.
'In the first two years of my career, there were a lot of restraints on what I could do. I couldn’t wear certain colors of lipstick, like bright pink, dark pink or red; [my lips] had to be natural,' she says. 'Eventually, I stopped communicating with certain people at the [record] label, and did exactly what I wanted to do. And that was to cut my hair, dye it black, change my clothes, change my sound. Really to just express myself... My hairdresser just said, “I don’t feel like doing your hair anymore — I want to cut it.” I was like, Finally!'
And now that we're finally seeing the real Rihanna, it seems there’s no stopping her, as yesterday she was spotted out and about with another brand new hairstyle. A bleached blonde, shaved-side, over the head mohawk-esque cut which has certainly wowed the Grazia office. Most of all, we just love the fact she’s confident doing her own thing. Go Rihanna!
