If New York’s hot designer Thakoon looks somewhat shy in his cameo in The September Issue, it was another story backstage at his show. Totally in command, he had a clear idea of what he wanted from his models: a strong, heavily orchestrated look. ‘It’s beach warrior samurai,’ Diane Kendal for NARS told us backstage. The emphasis was on the eyes, which were blended from the cheek to the eyebrow. But we loved the just-the-right-amount-of-shine on the apples of the cheeks, created by the just-about-to-be-released NARS ‘Orgasm Illuminator’ – developed from the cult ‘Orgasm’ blusher.
Thakoon’s hair was one of the most complicated we’ve seen so far this New York Fashion Week, with hair extensions individually dyed for each model so they all looked different and almost beachy. Created by Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professional's creative director of style, the surfer/samurai knot was labour intensive and took three hairstylists to complete on each girl. Not exactly ideal in the cramp backstage area.
