New York Fashion Week has been a story of two locations so far: the Milk studios downtown and the traditional tents uptown. Unsurprisingly the latter is where Derek Lam is taking place and it’s seriously crowded. Beyonce's Single Ladies is playing and Muscle milk is being drunk by the gallon load. Tom Pecheux for NARS was creating a colourful 'Coney Island' inspired look. 'It's about happiness and optimism a bit cheesy and tacky and contrasts with the luxurious clothes. Playing with colour it is what the fashion world should be all about.' As you’d expect from the Boardwalk inspiration, the cheeks were a pinky orange contour blended up to the temple creating a windswept look, and the eyes were colourful in stripes of green, purple, orange and blue giving a tribal feeling that represented Coney Island’s is ‘multi cultural' vibe. Hair was 'windswept, curls, tendrals and a bit sweaty.' T3's Orlando Pita told us, ‘It’s inspired by the film Body Heat and a girl riding a fairground ride at Coney Island.’ Perhaps surprisingly nails and toes were done in dark navy using Sally Hansen's Blazing Blue. And head’s up: dark nails are becoming a bit of a serious trend for spring.
