The September Issue beauty debrief

Anna Wintour Sienna Miller Chanel Iman

This year, we’ve had two big Anna Wintour-directed red-carpet affairs: the Met Ball and this week’s premiere of The September Issue. And while the fashion rules remained similar – full-on high glamour – the beauty diktat couldn’t have been more different. Whereas at the Met Ball we saw beauty experimentation pushed to the extreme (we’ll never forget Agy’s Thatch), The September Issue was a more dumbed-down affair. The common theme was a faux glow. We’re not talking a deep tan; just a soft, golden glow. Even Anna Wintour looked like she had been caught in the sun for all of 10 minutes! And to go with the end-of-summer theme, Sienna Miller opted for seriously pared-down hair and skin, and Renée Zellweger used a peachy blush to accentuate her dewy complexion. But Chanel Iman gets our vote for all round perfection – check out her just straight-enough hair, barely there make-up and face-framing brows. Now that’s what we call a supermodel! On another note, were Sienna’s sunglasses a poke at Anna Wintour’s signature accessory? After all, that 'toothy' comment wouldn’t sit well with us either.
