HOW TO do Drew Barrymore’s Gucci blowout

21 April 2009

Wowza! Did Drew Barrymore pull off some serious beauty looks last week or what? In her marathon week of ever-changing hair and make-up on the Grey Gardens premiere tour, our favourite Drew look was her '70s-style blowout hair that looked as if it had come straight off the S/S ‘09 Gucci catwalk. A week later and we're still in the throes of a serious beauty crush, so we asked A-list hair guru, Adam Reed, of the Percy & Reed salon, to show us how it's done.

Step one: prep the hair by blow-drying it smooth using a round brush. Wind the hair around the brush from the root to the tip and begin to pin it into rolls near the scalp to set a loose curl into the hair.

Step two: spritz with hairspray, (Adam loves Shu Uemura's) and leave in while you do your make-up.

Step three: remove the grips and run your fingers loosely through your hair – this look may be ultra-glam, but it doesn't have to be perfect!

Step four: Adam's top tip is to get just the right amount of hairspray by spritzing it onto a flat cushioned brush first, then brushing your hair. Do this, lifting the hair from beneath the root to add oomph!

Step five: take a section at the crown of your hair, pull it upwards and hold it tight. Take the brush and go into and down the hair just near the root to get a backcombed effect and super root-lift. Keep it low or max it up for the full-throttle Drew blowout!
