Recreate the Chanel catwalk hair at home!

11 March 2009

Sure, we love those crazy catwalk hair trends (YSL's turbans, say). But there's nothing better than a catwalk look we can actually recreate at home ourselves. Especially when it's come from a Chanel show. So praise be for Sam McKnight and the back-brushed waves he unveiled at yesterday's show. When we caught up with Sam after the show, he told us that, in consultation with Karl Lagerfeld, they'd kept the hair deliberately simple. 'I wanted to keep the girls looking young and fresh,' he said. ‘I needed to balance out the narrow silhouette created by the clothes so we went for a muted back-brushed look. I worked with Karl on the S/S ‘09 campaign with Heidi [Mount] and we loved her hair, so we wanted to recreate a look that still felt natural and outdoorsy, as if there was air moving through it.' To get just the right amount of bouff, Sam used Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray, which he spritzed on the hair before setting it in curling irons. Meanwhile, for the make-up, genius Peter Phillips applied super-long lashes with silver droplets that made the models' eyes sparkle. So a loose, uneven wave and lashed-up eyes. Sounds like something we can, and will, be doing in a matter of mere months...
