We have to admit that we're not quite sure what to call the beauty look at the Alexander McQueen show. But what we do know is that, like his A/W '09 collection, we've never seen anything like it before! Models strode down the catwalk with hairpieces made from recycled pieces of metal, heavily powered skin and huge, pillar-box red lips. So what's the back story? Well, Peter Phillips said the make-up was inspired by ‘clowns, divas and Pierrot, with a bit of Joan Crawford thrown in', with lipstick painted on well outside the natural line of the mouth. Meanwhile, Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau revealed that the hairpieces were to complete the collection's eco theme of recycling. 'For each of the 45 girls, we created a different look. The girl's hair was slicked tight to the head using Redken Urban Experiment Enamel Gel, then wrapped with tights (black or white). Next we added hats made out of spray-painted cola cans stacked and taped to the head, then wrapped with plastic and spray-painted again.' Hmm... so can we take it that coke cans are the new hair bows then..?
