London Fashion Week: the five key beauty trends

Phew! Our feet have just touched back down to earth (and into flats) and we're back at our desks after the whirlwind of London Fashion Week. So it's time to reflect on our top five beauty trends from the shows. Because, trust us, you will be doing this in your bedroom mirrors next season...

1) Braids. It's ALL about the plait next season. Make ’em chunky and 1970s-style à la PPQ, punky and mussed-up like the girls at Twenty8Twelve or Maid Marion-esque like at Margaret Howell. Just.Get.Plaiting.

2) The new pastel palette. The lilac/mushroom eye at Richard Nicoll and 'City Smoke' grey nails at Meadham Kirchoff have reaquainted us with the concept of pale but chic...

3) Scarlet lips. Smudgy and slept-in at Giles, prim and doll-like at Erdem and 1940s-style at Future Classics. Just wear it loud and proud, ladies...

4) Panda eyes. We had rocky, gothy 'sexy sluts' at PPQ and a new greasy panda at Henry Holland. Our party looks just went super-sexy...

5) The new cheek sculpt. Shading just got lower. The new word in face sculpting is a heavy, dark colour beneath the cheekbones in a super-straight line, as seen at Henry Holland and Peter Pilotto. Our faces just got a whole lot slimmer...
