Michelle Obama inspires New York beauty

19 February 2009

She's still not graced the front row, but Michelle Obama's influence remains prevalent at New York Fashion Week. Just not where you'd expect it. We get that her spies Ikram Goldman and Desiree Rogers were sent to scout out the Thakoon and Carolina Herrera shows (they're the type of things the First Lady would wear after all) but seeing Michelle Obama's face pop up at Kimora Lee Simmons's Baby Phat show is quite something else. The reality star taking influence from Mrs O's classic eyes and slight bouffant hair? MAC make-up artist, James Kaliardos, explains. He says he was inspired by Mrs O's classic beauty and used MAC Studio Sculpt foundation with a sweep of Pink Swoon blusher across the cheeks. Michelle's classic honey-toned eyes were then re-created with Drizzle Gold eyeshadow and some cocoa shadow on the brow bone, then topped off with that favourite make-up artist's trick – the dab of glitter in the inside corner of the eye. Lips were kept natural, but the finishing First Lady touch was with the hair which stylist Odile Gilbert volumed-up, adding a slight bouffant curl. Presidential beauty here we come...
